Imaginative design for a new visitor centre for South Tynedale Railway in Alston, Cumbria; an important local heritage attraction.

The South Tynedale Railway Preservation Society wanted to transform a basic empty unit into an engaging exhibition telling the story of the Society and its rural heritage railway, in a multi-purpose space that could also be hired out for events.

We designed an eye-catching space giving the exhibition a real up-to-date feel whilst sympathetic to its heritage content. We used an orange and grey colour palette fitting with the original Alston station and incorporated elements such as engineering drawings, brass rivets and vintage light fittings reminiscent of old stations, alongside state-of-the-art exhibition fixtures.
