Interior design for award-winning education, community and visitor centre at a large RSPB Discovery Park and Wildlife Reserve at Saltholme, on Teesside.

The centre is set amidst 1,000 acres of reclaimed industrial estuary land and the architects, JDDK, had responded to this setting with a highly contemporary building making dramatic use of wood, glass and metal materials.

To continue the striking yet sympathetic theme, we devised an ‘aquatic’ colour palette reflecting the centre’s watery surroundings, and used natural materials such as stone flooring and larch timber cladding to enhance the natural, welcoming feel.
